Marshes Light development to Sponsor One-Design Sailing Regatta July 26

MANTEO, N.C. – The Marshes Light waterfront development here will be one of the sponsors of the 2008 Summer One-Design Regatta sailing event on July 26.

This 6th Annual Regatta is organized by the North Carolina Maritime Museum on Roanoke Island here and the sailing competition takes place in nearby Shallowbag Bay.

The regatta which features various classes of day sailor sailboats, including the Optimist 420, Junior Sunfish, Master Sunfish (adult division) and Lasers.

“We’re very excited to be a Regatta sponsor since it’s right in front of Marshes Light and very accessible for spectators to view from our new marina,” said Lee Whitley, director of marketing and sales for Marshes Light. “It’s important for Marshes Light to be involved because boating is very important to the tradition and history of Manteo.”

Organizers say awards will be presented to sail boaters who are top three finishers in each class. The entry fee is $20 which includes dinner and a regatta T-shirt. Following registration that begins at 10 a.m. and a skippers meeting, the first race is scheduled to start at noon.
