Charlie Brown's to Buy Boddie-Noell's Texas Steakhouse


ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (Sept. 25, 2012) – Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc. and Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse announced today they have reached an agreement under which the New Jersey-based operator of steakhouse restaurants will purchase the Texas Steakhouse & Saloon restaurants.

Under the agreement, CB Steaks, LLC will purchase the Texas Steakhouse restaurant concept and all 19 locations in three states. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Charlie Brown’s operates some 20 steakhouse restaurants in New Jersey,New York and Pennsylvania. The company was founded in 1966 and is based in Mountainside, New Jersey.

The Texas Steakhouse brand was launched in the 1980s in Virginia. Texas Steak, Ltd purchased controlling interest in the company in 1994 and the concept has been operated since by Boddie-Noell Enterprises which is based here.

Today there are 10 Texas Steakhouse locations in North Carolina, five in Virginia and four in West Virginia. Charlie Brown’s will continue to operate the restaurants as Texas Steakhouse and plans to grow the concept throughout the region.

“We believe the purchase of Texas Steakhouse by Charlie Brown’s is in our best interest and allows us to focus on our core strengths, especially in the quick service restaurant category as the largest Hardee’s franchise operator in the United States,” said Bill Boddie, chief executive officer of Boddie-Noell Enterprises.

Boddie-Noell Donates Former Headquarters Building to United Way

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (Sept. 4, 2012) – Boddie-Noell Enterprises and the United Way Tar River Region jointly announced today that Boddie-Noell will donate the company’s former administrative building on Sunset Avenue to the United Way for its headquarters.


The United Way is expected to relocate its offices to the facility by the end of this year. The 4,900-square-foot facility at 2501 Sunset Ave. will be the first stand-alone office the United Way has owned. The donation of the building represents an extremely generous gesture by Boddie-Noell, according to United Way Executive Director Ginny Mohrbutter.

“We are ecstatic and grateful to Boddie-Noell for their donation of a building to our organization, as it will serve as a hub for our non-profit community and provide a wonderful space for our partners, volunteers, staff and citizens,” she said. “This donation will be a reminder for many years to come of Boddie-Noell’s generosity and its support of the United Way’s ongoing commitment to the twin-county region.”

The Williamsburg-style facility was built by Boddie-Noell in 1965 by company co-founders Carleton Noell and brothers Nick and Mayo Boddie. It served as the company’s administrative office for 17 years until the company’s new headquarters was completed in 1982 on Noell Lane just off of Hunter Hill Road.

“We’ve always believed in sharing with the community and theUnited Way had a need and we had a nice building – it’s a good combination,” said Mayo Boddie, Sr., Boddie-Noell’s chairman and co-founder, of the building’s donation to the United Way. Boddie-Noell and its employees have had an active presence with United Way for decades and the company’s employees and senior leadership have served in a variety of voluntary roles, including leadership positions.

The United Way offices are currently located at 230 Sunset Ave. in space provided by Southern Bank, Mohrbutter said. Mohrbutter expressed thanks to the bank for its leadership and support during the United Way’s tenure in the bank’s business center. The Tar River Region United Way is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012.

SCYNEXIS to Present on Screening Technology Used in Anti-Malarial Research at ACS National Meeting

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Aug. 20, 2012) – SCYNEXIS, Inc. announces the presentation of innovative screening approaches used in the discovery of promising anti-malarial therapies at the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) national meeting.

Paul J. Kowalczyk, Ph.D., senior computational chemist in the company’s Integrated Parasitology division, will make the presentation entitled, “Machine learning: Better practices applied to anti-malarial drug discovery.”

AW North Carolina Announces Plans to Increase Production Again

Transmission manufacturer will invest additional $14 million, create 250 new jobs

DURHAM, N.C. (March 12, 2012) – AW North Carolina, Inc. today announced plans to increase current production volumes at the company’s facility on Old Oxford Highway. An investment of additional machinery is expected to exceed $14 million and the increase in manufacturing will generate as many as 250 new jobs over the next 12 months.

AW North Carolina announced in April 2010 plans to invest an additional $100 million at the facility creating over 360 new jobs. Those plans have been fulfilled and this new announcement is in addition to the success of the April 2010 project.

In addition to an increase in current manufacturing, much of the additional production will support the Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia operation. This project will also bring new business to several suppliers in the U.S., creating additional jobs.

An industry-leading manufacturer of automatic transmissions and transmission components, AW North Carolina broke ground in Durham just over 13 years ago to produce components for Toyota Motor Manufacturing’s front wheel drive passenger vehicles. Since that time, AW North Carolina has expanded operations to manufacture fully assembled rear wheel drive and front wheel drive automatic transmissions.

Bailey's Fine Jewelry Announces 2011 Employee Award Winners for Raleigh Store Locations

RALEIGH, N.C. (Mar. 1, 2012) – Bailey’s Fine Jewelry is pleased to announce the 2011 Employee Award recipients for its Cameron Village, Crabtree Valley Mall and corporate office locations in Raleigh. Five employees were recognized from the Cameron Village store, three employees from the Crabtree Valley location and two from the corporate office at the company’s annual awards banquet, which was held Sunday at the Cardinal Club.

The Core Values award was given to Gabby Santoni for the Cameron Village location and Kim Horton for the Crabtree location. Chrystal Blow received the award for the corporate office. The Core Values award winner is voted on by fellow associates in each store and is given to an individual who exemplifies the core values of Bailey’s Fine Jewelry, which include honesty, integrity, professionalism, sincerity and graciousness.

Margarita Allen received the Salesperson of the Year award for the Cameron Village store and Susan House received the award for the Crabtree store. The Salesperson of the Year award is given to an individual who not only had top sales performance in 2011, but also went above and beyond for patrons and fellow associates in addition to always being a team player.

Allen and House were also both recognized as the Hugger of the Year for the Cameron Village and Crabtree stores, respectively. The Hugger of the Year is awarded to the person who is a team player and goes above and beyond to give the Bailey’s Extraordinary Experience.

Rich Nobrega of the Cameron Village store received the Outstanding Service award, which honors the most valuable person in the Service Department. This award is based on behind-the-scenes work and is given to an individual who consistently exceeds the expectations of the everyday job, and puts the interests of patrons, co-workers and the overall company above his own. This award is given only to one employee company-wide.

Nancy Holt was recognized as Rookie of the Year for the company. Holt works in the Cameron Village store location.

Blair Dickens from the corporate office won the Award of Excellence. The Award of Excellence is awarded to the employee who exhibits outstanding growth and is an extremely valuable asset to the company. This award is given only to one employee company-wide. Dickens was also recognized as Hugger of the Year for the corporate office.

Reggie White from the Cameron Village store and Bill Rich, manager of the Crabtree location, were awarded the Outstanding Contribution award for 2011, which recognizes an employee who repeatedly goes above and beyond the expectations of the everyday job and puts the interest of the overall company above his or her own.

In addition, seven Raleigh-based employees were recognized for their milestones in years of service. Josh Bernstein, Steve Ninich, Ann Bazemore and Blair Dickens were honored for five years of service, while Kitty Havrish and Claire Bellefeuille were recognized for 10 years of service and Kelly Allen for 15 years.

Bailey's Fine Jewelry's A Time to Give Raises Nearly $30,000 for Community

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2012) – Bailey’s Fine Jewelry donated nearly $30,000 to charities in 2011 through the A Time to Give program, created by the Bailey family as a way to support and give back to the community, while providing watch battery replacements to patrons.

A Time to Give provides a free replacement for any watch battery and in exchange requests a donation be made to that month’s designated charity. Bailey’s selects a different non-profit organization each month to receive all the donations from A Time to Give.
