Interact Named Charity of Choice for Bailey's Fine Jewelry's Battery Replacement Program

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 23, 2009) – Bailey’s Fine Jewelry in Cameron Village selected Interact as the charity of choice for the retailer’s March charitable watch battery replacement program. All donations from watch battery replacements collected during this time will be donated to the Interact organization. Interact is a private, nonprofit United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault.

This battery replacement program is a unique effort created to address both the needs of customers (who need new watch batteries) and to serve the community. Each Bailey’s Fine Jewelry store location picks a charity of choice and all donations collected throughout a set time frame are given to the selected charity.

Bailey’s Fine Jewelry covers the cost of the watch batteries. Organizations that have benefited include the Eastern N.C. Alzheimer’s Association, Iraqi Star, Salvation Army, Hospice of Wake County and Hearts Revived. The battery replacement program is ongoing and to date has given over $40,000 back to the community.

“Our family and employees are continuously impressed with the services that Interact provides for our community,” said Trey Bailey, director of operations for Bailey’s Fine Jewelry. “We’re excited to be supporting them through our battery replacement program.”

Buy Hoops to Bring Hope during March Madness at Bailey's Fine Jewelry

RALEIGH, N.C. - Score hoops at Bailey’s Fine Jewelry as they gear up for March Madness. This spring, Bailey’s stores in Raleigh, Rocky Mount, and Greenville will be contributing 10 percent of all sales on hoop earrings to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

The fundraiser includes any pair of hoop earrings in the store, starting at $20 all the way up to high-end designers.

“We’re basketball fanatics, so our family is excited to have found a way to bring March Madness and fine jewelry together to support a great cause,” said Trey Bailey, director of operations for Bailey’s Fine Jewelry. “We followed Kay Yow through her career, and are proud to be able to contribute to a cause that is dear to the hearts of her fans.”

The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund is a charitable organization, dedicated to the fight against women’s cancers. Kay Yow, the former NC State head women’s basketball coach, was a founding member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Despite being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, Yow served as head coach for 38 years and was one of only six Division I head women’s basketball mentors to achieve 700 career victories. After facing three bouts with the disease, she passed away in January of 2009.

The Fund is the first charity that the WBCA has chosen in its 28-year history, as it now works in partnership with The V Foundation to raise money for scientific research, assist the underserved, and unify people for a common cause. Hardee's Donates $35,000 to Duke Children's Hospital Radiothon

Largest franchisee offers last-minute contribution to help reach $1 million goal

DURHAM, N.C. (Feb. 25, 2009) – Hardee’s in the Triangle donated $35,000 to Duke Children’s Hospital during the 15th MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM Radiothon. More than 70 Hardee’s restaurants in the Triangle, Rocky Mount, Durham and Fayetteville area participated to help raise funds for the annual fundraiser.

Hardee’s has been a long-time supporter and advocate of the Duke Children’s Hospital since becoming one of the major corporate donors to help build the Children’s Health Center in 2000.

On the final day of the radiothon, it appeared that the fundraiser might come up just short of its $1 million goal. Hardee’s largest franchisee, Boddie-Noell Enterprises, stepped in at 5:15 p.m. to offer an additional $5,000 to bridge the gap. The contribution was dedicated to a local Hardee’s employee whose family experiences with Duke Children’s Hospital gave her first-hand knowledge of the hospital’s commitment to patient care and state-of-the-art medical treatment.

"We are incredibly thankful to Hardee's and Boddie-Noell Enterprises for the support and momentum they gave the MIX 101.5 Radiothon this year," said Kristen Johnson, major gifts officer at Duke Children's Hospital and director of the MIX 101.5 Radiothon. "Miracles will continue to happen at Duke Children's thanks to the generosity and leadership from the Hardee's team and the customers who ordered a miracle combo meal.”

The MIX 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital began on Feb. 10 at 6 a.m. and concluded on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. In addition to donating a portion of breakfast, lunch and dinner combo meal sales to Duke Children’s Hospital, Hardee’s provided breakfast to phone bank volunteers and matched contributions made by listeners during the Hardee’s Miracle Breakfast Hour from 8 to 9 a.m. each morning of the radiothon.

“We were honored to step in and offer help to the radiothon to reach their goal of $1 million on the last day,” said Jerry Allsbrook, chief marketing officer for Boddie-Noell Enterprises, the largest Hardee’s franchisee in North Carolina as well as the U.S. “Hardee’s was born in North Carolina and has always been committed to supporting our community and organizations like Duke Children’s Hospital that help provide invaluable services to people across our state and country.”

The MIX 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children's Hospital raises more money per capita than any other Children's Miracle Network Radiothon in the U.S. and Canada. This year’s event raised more than $1 million to support cutting-edge medical services and programs for pediatric patients and their families. Money raised during the radiothon supports valuable programs and services for their patients and their families, including:

- Preoperative educational brochures, teaching dolls and videos for children.
- A reading program to promote early literacy skills among children at the highest risk for school failure.
- Craft supplies for Child and Adolescent Life program.-Enuresis alarms for the urology patients.
- Meal and parking passes and phone cards to assist low-income families with local needs while

Hardee's Helps Fight Muscular Dystrophy One Shamrock at a Time

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – (Feb. 17, 2009) Hardee’s locations owned and operated by Boddie-Noell Enterprises (BNE) have set a goal to raise over $300,000 in 2009 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by participating in the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy campaign.

Between now and March 17, customers at participating restaurants will be encouraged to purchase a $1 green Shamrock. Participating Hardee’s are located across North Carolina, Virginia and in Kentucky and South Carolina.

Each customer who purchases a Shamrock will receive a coupon for a discount in the restaurant. Once sold, the Shamrocks, which include the customer’s signature, will be hung for display in each restaurant to create a festive St. Patrick’s Day atmosphere.

A portion of the total raised by BNE restaurants will help send children across North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and South Carolina to MDA summer camps this year. Located in each state, MDA summer camps offer participants a fun, safe outdoor experience and the opportunity to develop important life skills such as confidence, independence and social ability. The camp experience also promotes a great sense of self-esteem and achievement.

The money raised through this year’s campaign will add to the $1 million donated by customers at restaurants operated by BNE over the past 10 years through the purchase of Shamrocks.

“We are very appreciative of all our customers and employee efforts in supporting Shamrocks Against Dystrophy year after year,” said Jerry Allsbrook, vice president of the national MDA and chief marketing officer for Boddie-Noell Enterprises. “We’re proud to know that our contributions enable children in our own local communities to attend MDA camp. Last year, we helped send over 300 children to summer camp and we hope to send even more this year.”

The contribution from the over 340 Boddie-Noell restaurants will be one of the largest received by the MDA in the Carolinas and in Virginia this year. The contributions will go to help with care for local children and adults affected by one of the 43 diseases for which the MDA provides treatment.

The local services that MDA provides includes wheelchair, leg brace, and communication device payment assistance, support groups, professional health education, and care at affiliated clinics at Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Roanoke Neurological Center, the Medical College of Virginia and elsewhere.

Hardee's Teams Up with Tar Heels Athletics and Donates $14,500 to Lineberger Cancer Center

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2009) -- Hardee’s donated $14,500 to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UNC men’s basketball game in Chapel Hill this past weekend.

Bill Boddie, president and chief executive officer of Boddie-Noell Enterprises, the largest Hardee’s franchisee in North Carolina as well as the U.S., presented the check to H. Shelton Earp, M.D., director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, during halftime at Saturday’s game.

Over the past year, Hardee’s has donated $500 for each touchdown made by the Tar Heels football team at the Meineke Car Care Bowl as well as $25 for every 3-point shot made by a UNC men’s or women’s basketball player at all regular season games, both home and away.

The check presentation took place immediately following the exciting Hardee’s Shoot Out Against Cancer in the Dean E. Smith Center where former UNC All-American and current women’s assistant basketball coach Charlotte Smith sunk several shots to increase the amount of money donated by Hardee’s. Smith made the winning shot during the 1994 Women’s National Championship game, the only one in UNC history. During the contest, Smith proved she still had it by making five free throws worth $500 each and one 3-pointer worth $2,500 from the same spot as her winning shot in 1994.

Thanks to Smith’s efforts, $5,000 was added to the grand total donated by Hardee’s to the UNC Lineberger Center.

“This was something fun and exciting for Hardee’s to do,” said Jerry Allsbrook, chief marketing officer for Boddie-Noell Enterprises. “We wanted to give Tar Heel fans a bigger reason to cheer when their team scores. Teaming up with Tar Heel athletics and supporting the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center demonstrates the deep roots of Hardee’s in North Carolina as well as our support and commitment to the fight against cancer. ”

As part of the UNC system, the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only public comprehensive cancer center for the people of North Carolina. The mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach. The Lineberger Cancer Center is also recognized as one of 40 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and is ranked in the top 15 institutions nationally in cancer research funding.

“It takes a team to play great basketball and skill to make 3-point shots. At the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center we take the team approach to cancer, with many skilled specialists involved in planning and providing leading cancer care for each patient,” said Earp. “We are most grateful to Hardee’s for their strong support of cancer research at North Carolina’s public comprehensive cancer center.”
