Hardee's is New Athletics Sponsor at Four NC and VA Universities
The sponsorship agreements with each school cover different sports and sports venues.
“We are thrilled to be supporting these schools during the 2008-2009 athletic season,” said Jerry Allsbrook, chief marketing officer for Boddie-Noell Enterprises, the largest Hardee’s franchisee in North Carolina and Virginia. “Hardee’s has a strong presence in both Virginia and North Carolina so it was a natural fit for us to commit and support these athletics programs.”
At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the sponsorship features the Hardee’s brand on video boards this season in both the Dean E. Smith Center and Kenan Stadium and also provides opportunities for food and premium giveaways to students and fans. Hardee’s will also be the official sponsor for the Nov. 8 UNC homecoming football game against Georgia Tech and also holds similar honors for “The Tar Pit” student section at Kenan Stadium for every home football game this year. Additionally, for every 3-point shot made by a UNC men’s or women’s basketball player during the 2008-2009 Tar Heel basketball season, Hardee’s will make a $25 contribution to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
At North Carolina State University, the sponsorship features the Hardee’s logo prominently displayed at Carter-Finley Stadium and the RBC Center. Hardee’s also provides fun events for food and giveaways to students and fans. Hardee’s was named the official sponsor of the Hardee’s Half-time Report which airs during all 12 NC State football game broadcasts this season on the statewide Wolfpack Sports Network. Earlier this year, Hardee’s launched its student and fan promotional activities at NSCU by giving away 10,000 free Thickburger® coupons after a NCSU student kicked a 35-yard field goal during a time-out in the first quarter of the NCSU vs. ECU game. Additionally, for every 3-point shot made by a NCSU men’s basketball player during the 2008-2009 basketball season, Hardee’s will make a contribution to a student scholarship fund.
At the University of Virginia, the sponsorship, exclusive to the Cavalier football program, features the Hardee’s logo prominently in signage in Scott Stadium and provides contests for fans and scholarships for students. Under the partnership, Hardee’s donates $250 to UVA’s General Scholarship Fund for every quarterback sack by the Cavaliers at Scott Stadium. In addition, Hardee’s will be the official sponsor of the Nov. 22 football game against Clemson. The game sponsorship will include public address and video board recognition of Hardee’s as the game sponsor as well as fun contests on the field during halftime or pre game. The Hardee’s logo will also appear on the Virginia Athletics “GameDay Central” website page the prior week.

Boddie-Noell To Hold 'Hometown' Celebration for Makeover of Wesleyan Boulevard Hardee's
The remodeled Hardee’s creates a contemporary-style makeover of the restaurant, the first remodeling of a Hardee’s by Boddie-Noell since its purchase of 34 restaurants from Hardee’s parent company in 2007. The purchase included all five Hardee’s in Rocky Mount, the first time Boddie-Noell has owned a Hardee’s in its home town.
This project creates a fresh, new look and feel to the restaurant and represents a commitment by Boddie-Noell to where the company was founded 46 years ago, Boddie-Noell said.
“We’ve been looking forward to this opening to celebrate our hometown commitment to Rocky Mount and to demonstrate what a great future the Hardee’s brand has here and elsewhere,” said Mike Boddie, president of Boddie-Noell’s Restaurant Division. “We’re really excited about this new restaurant design. We feel the bold new take on the 1950s-style diner will appeal to customers of all ages.”
To celebrate the completion of the remodel project, a week-long series of activities gets underway on Saturday Oct. 25. It begins bright and early at 5 a.m. with the first 98 people in line winning a free Thickburger a week for a year. All 98 winners will also be treated to a free breakfast of a sausage biscuit and coffee.
Throughout the week there will be daily menu promotions such as 2 for $1 sausage biscuits and buy one get one free Little Thickburgers®. On Halloween, guests who visit in costume will receive a treat. A schedule of all promotional offers can be found on posters at the restaurant.
The restaurant now features the Hardee’s “Classic Star” décor which includes barstool-height chairs and tables and stainless steel finishes to create a contemporized 1950s look. The highly stylized exterior showcases brick towers and the Hardee’s star icon, both are elements of the latest Hardee’s prototype restaurant design.
While Boddie-Noell owns a number of Hardee’s in Nash, Edgecombe and neighboring counties, the company decided to start with the Wesleyan Boulevard restaurant because of its highly visible location and a desire to support the continuing transition of the area where Tarrytown Mall once stood.
The remodel celebration is the latest of several home town initiatives that began earlier this year, including radio advertising featuring local customers and employees and the “Hometown Heroes” discount program for fire, police and rescue workers.

Marshes Light Model Home to be in 2008 Outer Banks Parade of Homes Oct. 9-12
The four-bedroom, two-story home at 326 Fernando Street is in the historic district of Manteo and was built to “The Manteo Way of Building” guidelines to conform to Roanoke Island architectural traditions. The home was built by local builder Steve Daniels of Renaissance Construction.
The Marshes Light house is one of five homes on Roanoke Island that have been included in this year's Parade. This 2,700-square-foot, 2 full-bath home is unique in blending in with the old-town feel of Manteo, including the use of beadboard wainscoting, reclaimed woods floors, tall ceilings, paneled doors, glass doorknobs and other vintage hardware. The beautifully appointed interior blends well with the personality of the ‘country coastal farmhouse’ look and feel.
“Steve Daniels has done a beautiful job with this home and we’re excited that Parade visitors will be able to enjoy a decorated home that was designed from the ground up to blend with the historic feel of Manteo and the waterfront here,” said Lee Whitley, director of marketing and sales for Marshes Light. The Marshes Light waterfront community is made up of single family home sites as well as two and three-bedroom marina villas and townhouse flats above retail space designed to carefully blend with the coastal traditions of Roanoke Island. Connected to downtown Manteo by a waterfront boardwalk, Marshes Light also features a beautiful new marina on Shallowbag Bay.
The 16th Annual Pride of Homes has 32 homes this year which will be showcased all the way from Corolla to Hatteras, including the unprecedented five homes on Roanoke Island. The event is sponsored by the Outer Banks Homebuilders Association and includes homes from 27 of the builder members.
Parade tickets and information about ticket vendor locations are available at the Outer Banks Home Builders office by calling 252-449.8232 or by going to www.obhomebuilders.org. Marshes Light Marina Opens -- New Boating Access to Manteo's Historic Waterfront
Developer Kitty Hawk Land Company says the new marina is opening with 45 full-service dock slips already completed and another 113 slips approved by the Town of Manteo. In addition, Marshes Light Marina provides boaters with picturesque views and a 5-minute walk along a new boardwalk to Manteo’s nearby downtown shopping and restaurants.
The new marina is part of Marshes Light, the new waterfront community of townhome flats, villas and single family home sites designed to carefully blend in with the coastal traditions of Manteo and Roanoke Island.
A small dock master’s office is being completed this month and will provide ice, soft drinks, snacks as well as marine products, according to the marina’s dock master, Joe Chambliss. Restroom facilities are also available on site.
The new marina provides transient recreational boat slips by the day, week and month as well as a limited number of slips for purchase by individuals and Marshes Light property owners. Boat slip sale prices start at $75,000.
Marshes Light Marina’s slips can accommodate recreational boats up to 70 feet with running water and 30 and 50-amp shore power service, according to Chambliss. The marina is under 10 miles by boat from the IntraCoastal Waterway and some 15 miles from Oregon Inlet and the Atlantic.
“We’re very excited about Marshes Light Marina which offers a new dimension to living in the Marshes Light community and blends in so well with the historic character of downtown Manteo and the waterfront,” said Lee Whitley, director of marketing and sales for Marshes Light. “These are some of the most beautiful views available of Shallowbag Bay.”
The new waterfront boardwalk and marina at Marshes Light connects seamlessly with Manteo’s well-known boardwalk, extending literally to the last marina slip well out into Shallowbag Bay. The boardwalk is a regular favorite of walkers who enjoy the Manteo waterfront views, including a direct view across the bay of the Elizabeth II, the replica English ship that English explorers sailed to arrive at Roanoke Island some 425 years ago. The boardwalk also offers walking access to the state-operated Festival Park.
To introduce boaters to the new marina, Marshes Light is allowing the first 50 boaters who apply to have free weekend slip access through December 2008. Those not among the first 50 boaters who apply are entitled to a specially discounted transient rate through
December 2008.
Marshes Light and Kitty Hawk Land Company are making plans for construction of the additional marina docks, including a design to minimize wave disturbances in the marina. The marina also hopes to eventually have a full ship’s store as it grows, said Chambliss. Sound Marine Inc. of Wilmington is providing assistance with the launch and operations of the marina.
Marshes Light Marina is located on Shallowbag Bay just south of the entrance to Manteo’s downtown waterfront and is within easy walking distance of Manteo’s Town Marina. For boaters using the Global Positioning System (GPS), the new marina is located at Latitude 35 deg. 54.327' N and Longitude 75 deg. 40.143' W.
For more information about the marina, call Chambliss at 252-327-9803, e-mail marinainfo@marsheslight.com or go to http://www.marsheslight.com/. Kitty Hawk Land's Mickey Hayes to Retire - Capping More Than 30 Years of Success on the Outer Banks
"Nobody’s more deserving of being able to slow down and relax than Mickey Hayes with all he’s accomplished as one of the best developers in this part of the country,” said Boddie-Noell Chairman Mayo Boddie, Sr. “Mickey is practically a legend on the Outer Banks for his success with quality resort and residential projects.”
Hayes, who joined Kitty Hawk Land Company in 1976, was involved in the development and sales management for the Southern Shores community and later with The Currituck Club resort and golf course community at Corolla. He has been president of Kitty Hawk Land since 1985 when the company was acquired and became a division of Boddie-Noell.
“Mickey is a local legend with exceptional knowledge of the Outer Banks real estate market and he has a true vision for quality developments,” said Doug Anderson, president of BNE Land & Development which is responsible for Boddie-Noell’s non-restaurant real estate and development activities. “His contributions to our company are immeasurable, and he will be greatly missed.”
With Hayes’ retirement, Anderson said Kitty Hawk Land will remain focused on the completion and sales of the company’s three newest projects – Marshes Light, a residential and retail development on Manteo’s historic waterfront; Arlington Place. a waterfront community on the Neuse River near New Bern; and Viniterra, a gated residential community between Richmond and Williamsburg, Va., that features a Rees Jones 18-hole championship golf course, a winery and other resort-style planned amenities.
A Virginia Beach, Va., native and graduate of Virginia Tech who remains actively involved in alumni affairs, Hayes is a landscape architect and designer who brought that skilled eye and creativity into developments he launched. He also has a successful real estate sales career in both North Carolina and Virginia, having been involved in sales management in Sandbridge Beach, Va., Sugar Mountain, N.C, and Bald Head Island, N.C. where he achieved successful results for the island development in the 1970s.
Hayes was later involved in the development of the Spindrift, SeaPines and OceanCrest communities in Duck and the WatersEdge community in Colington Island. The culmination of his success may have been The Currituck Club, the award-winning resort development in the Corolla area, a 600-acre golf course community with more than 700 residential homes built around the 18-hole Rees Jones-designed golf course. The project began in 1995 through a partnership of Boddie-Noell and landowner members of a historic waterfront gun club. The course was named one of the Top 10 new golf courses in America in its first year by Golf magazine. More than $350 million worth of property has been sold by the Currituck Club sales team since marketing began in 1996 and the resort won an Urban Land Institute award for use of environmentally sensitive golf course design innovations.
“There’s no doubt that The Currituck Club is associated with Mickey Hayes as much as any individual,” notes Boddie-Noell Vice Chairman Nick Boddie.

Boddie-Noell Names 2008 Biscuit-Maker Winner
The other three finalists are Made From Scratch biscuit makers Elijah Hoff of Timberville, Va., Martha Sims of Waverly, Va. and Debra Barnhardt of Kannapolis.
Contestants represented Boddie-Noell’s more than 340 Hardee’s restaurants throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky. They were recognized as the best Biscuit Makers at a banquet held at the Rose Hill Conference Center in Nashville.
The competition began in January and each contestant had to advance through a local, district, and regional level of biscuit-making competition. The final winners were announced by Terry Lewis, Boddie-Noell’s vice president of operations for Hardee’s, who helped judge the final round.
“These are the top four biscuit makers out of approximately 690 biscuit makers that competed in this competition,” said Lewis. “They understand what a true Hardee’s Made From Scratch biscuit should taste and look like.”
In the biscuit competition, all biscuit makers were evaluated by the company’s leaders on knowledge and execution of Boddie-Noell Biscuit procedures, knowledge and cleanliness of biscuit equipment, personal appearance, and of course, the biscuit’s appearance, focusing on texture, temperature, size, and weight.
What’s the secret to making a delicious, appealing Hardee’s Biscuit? “Make them with a lot of love and enjoy baking,” said this year's winner Silvia Ledesma.
Biscuits are an immense part of the breakfast menu offered by Hardee’s. Last year, the Boddie-Noell Hardee’s used more than 1.5 million bags of biscuit mix, 146,000 bags of biscuit flour, and 731,000 gallons of buttermilk to prepare biscuits for their breakfast customers.

NEWS RELEASE
NEW KENT, VA. (May 15, 2008) – ClubCorp, the world leader in delivering premier golf, private club and resort experiences, will manage the new Rees Jones-designed golf course and other recreational amenities at Viniterra, the gated community in the New Kent Vineyards development between Richmond and Williamsburg, those involved announced today.
ClubCorp will manage The Viniterra Golf Club, the championship 18-hole golf course which is scheduled to open in early 2009. In addition, ClubCorp will manage the future Viniterra clubhouse, pro shop, teaching studio and other amenities, which include a tennis facility, a swim and wellness center, restaurant and café.
“We’re extremely pleased to have ClubCorp become a key player at Viniterra,” said Mickey Hayes, president of Viniterra’s lead development partner, Kitty Hawk Land Company, a division of Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc. “When we look across the range of companies and the level of operations we expect for a premier setting like Viniterra, there’s no question that ClubCorp was the name we want to be associated with us here.”
Kitty Hawk Land already has a “great relationship” with ClubCorp at its Currituck Club golf community at Corolla, North Carolina, Hayes noted.
“We are thrilled to be adding The Club at Viniterra to our family of fine clubs,” stated Eric Affeldt, ClubCorp’s president and CEO. “This is a perfect opportunity for us to expand our great relationship with Kitty Hawk Land Company. We believe Viniterra will quickly earn a reputation as a preeminent club and community in the region, and we will work hard to ensure its long-term success."
The championship golf course is one of the signature elements of the upscale Viniterra community which is sited on nearly 1,200 acres within the master-planned community of New Kent Vineyards. Members of Viniterra’s country club, golfers, Viniterra estate homesite owners and other homeowners alike, will experience a convergence of lakes, vineyards and uniquely designed fairways for spectacular views.
Viniterra’s golf course has been cleared and all of the holes have been developed. The varied topography of the land has worked well in Jones’ design of the course with plenty of surprises. For instance, the No. 15 hole, a par-3, will have 15 tee boxes, allowing for varied play expertise and challenge levels. For more details on the Viniterra golf course, including a description of the course by the Rees Jones team, visit http://www.viniterra.com/golf.
The course is also being developed in an environmentally sensitive manner – maximizing water resource protection. ClubCorp, with its many years of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge about water conservation. The golf course will use a collection of lakes and shallow ponds to provide irrigation to the drought-resistant grasses being used throughout.
“The combination of the Rees Jones-designed course, ClubCorp’s world-class management of the resort amenity and an experienced golf course superintendent, will provide a truly unique experience,” added Hayes.
One of the most distinctive elements of Viniterra is the New Kent Winery, which overlooks acres of existing vineyards. The Bordeaux-style facility enjoys the best in winemaking facilities and makes an exciting architectural statement, constructed with antique and reclaimed historic materials that reach back across centuries. The winery will bottle and sell six varieties of wine for sampling and sale and will be a center of activity in the Viniterra community. It will be joined by an adjacent equestrian facility and nearby polo fields.

Arlington Place Model Home is Big Winner in the 2008 Parade of Homes Competition
MINNESOTT BEACH, NC (April 22, 2008) – A model home on display at Arlington Place, the new waterfront residential community on the Neuse River, has won two major awards in this year’s area Parade of Homes competition.
The model home built by award-winning builder Mancuso Development, an Arlington Place Signature Builder, was named best home among the highest-priced category of this year’s Parade homes. In addition, the kitchen in Mancuso’s home was recognized as a special feature worth noting among all 58 of the Parade Homes in this year’s competition. The winners were announced on April 17.
“We’re obviously very excited to be named by our peers as the ‘best home’ in our category and also as having a kitchen that’s especially noteworthy among all of the homes in this year’s Parade event,” said Mancuso Development President Bernie Mancuso.
Mancuso describes his winning home as a “relaxed coastal design” featuring a floor plan from noted home designer William E. Poole of Wilmington, NC.
Just under 3,000-square-feet including a finished room over the garage, Mancuso’s home exterior features a light gray color and a large welcoming and nostalgic porch. The interior color scheme combines natural colors along with tasteful blue and yellow tones. The bathrooms and kitchen are fully tiled including granite countertops. The home features hardwood floors throughout except for the bedrooms which are carpeted. Other upgrades include a finished “gentlemen’s room” over the garage with a surround-sound speaker system, built-in bar and a pool table.
The home’s interior was decorated by interior designer Cathy Weeks of Décor by the Shore and Fran Mancuso of Mancuso Development who looked for elements of coastal living complemented with plush furniture. The effect is elegance without being flashy. “It definitely has a relaxed, coastal feel with a certain elegance that seems to invite you to sit down and enjoy a glass of lemonade,” said Mancuso marketing rep Sarah Franklin.
Corolla, NC-based Mancuso Development was named a Signature Builder at Arlington Place last year based on more than two decades of successful home-building experience. Mancuso is also the only builder to win the coveted North Carolina Home Builders Award of Excellence four consecutive years. As one of the select number of elite homebuilders accepted into the Arlington Place program, Mancuso had to demonstrate a high level of service with a history of customer satisfaction as well as level of financial stability that places him above the typical builder.
The Parade of Homes continues through April with tour dates from noon to 5 p.m. on April 19, 20, 26 and 27. The Mancuso-built home also will be available to tour during Arlington Place’s 2008 Memorial Day Weekend Neighborhood Open House on Saturday, May 24.

“We are very appreciative of all our customers and employee efforts in supporting this extremely worthwhile cause,” said Mike Boddie, president of the restaurant division for Boddie-Noell Enterprises. “We’re proud to know that our contributions will help enable children in our local communities to attend MDA camp this year, and we’re pleased to be associated with such a worthwhile organization that does great things in our communities.”
Boddie-Noell Enterprises has 395 restaurant locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky participating in this annual fundraiser. This year’s proceeds for the MDA will be one of the largest in the Carolinas and Virginia and will allow 375 children to go to MDA camp this year.
“For the past nine years, from top down and bottom up, Boddie-Noell executives and associates have been tremendous in their support of the MDA,” said Todd Hermon, divisional vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “Their effort with Shamrocks is unparalleled in the communities that they do business. They are one of our top contributors each year.”
The contributions will go to help with care for local children and adults affected by one of the 43 diseases for which the MDA provides treatment. The local services that MDA provides includes wheelchair, leg brace, and communication device payment assistance, support groups, professional health education, and care at affiliated clinics at Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Roanoke Neurological Center, the Medical College of Virginia and more.
